This week (and pretty much all of the last month) has been dedicated to moving. We are all settling in nicely. It has been an incredible amount of work, but also super rewarding. I feel so fortunate and blessed to be able to say that this place is pretty much a dream home for me. (Does anybody else get that feeling that it's sometimes almost … [Read more...]
Every family
Every family has: An alcoholic (or 7) Lots of moms (that turn into grandmas and look out for everyone) And dads and grandpas too Somebody who voted for Trump Somebody who most definitely did NOT vote for Trump... and a bunch of people who didn't bother to vote at all Someone who hosts Thanksgiving dinner every year A … [Read more...]
N things of the week – #15
I have exciting news this week! We have a contract on a house and are planning on moving in two or three weeks!! I love the house and the area that it's in is gorgeous. And it comes with a playground for the little guy! It is basically my dream home. It's in the forest and super close to biking and hiking trails in the National Forest. It's … [Read more...]
N things of the week – #14
The last week has been filled with lots of great stuff for me! Here's a few of the highlights. Going to the gym (almost) daily I have been going to the gym pretty much every day for the last two weeks. I'd gotten in a slump about it in December because I was sick for several weeks and then I just never got back to it. I decided that it was … [Read more...]
N things of the week – #13
I've been staying busy the last few months. I suppose that's no surprise with baby B in the picture and my tendency towards lots of different interests. Here's a snapshot of some of what I've been up to lately. Riding the tram Last month, I took a family member up the Sandia Peak Tram. I've been up it a few times, and yet I still … [Read more...]
Programming progress!
I have been on the fringes of computer programming for a long time. My dad is a programmer and has been since before I was born. I work providing customer support for his program. As a math major in college, I studied algorithms for programs to solve math problems. The classes were focused on the math side rather than on learning any … [Read more...]
Super purple moon
It isn't really called a purple moon. It's a Super Blood Blue Moon. An event that hasn't happened since sometime in the 1800's and won't happen again until sometime in the 2030's. I read the exact dates in the newspaper but don't recall them now. It's a super moon because the moon is as close to the earth as it ever is. It's a blood moon … [Read more...]
12 in 2017 – the year in pictures
2017 has been quite the year! I decided to go through and pick one picture from each month to review the year. It's crazy to think that on January 10th, baby B was all of 1.7 centimeters tall. Talk about the miracle of life! I only took two pictures in February, which may be a record low for me for many years. I was just struggling … [Read more...]
Laws don’t magically solve problems
Too often we want to pass laws to solve problems. If there’s a school shooting, people say, “Let’s make guns illegal”. People that are against abortion say, “Let’s make it illegal.” Whatever the problem (or perceived problem) is, there’s somebody out there pushing for a law against it. I’m certainly not against all laws, but the truth is that … [Read more...]
Why I’m Learning to Program
Discovering the Grow with Google scholarship program for Udacity led me to discover Udacity itself. Udacity offers tons of free, high-quality classes on web design, programming, mobile app development, and some other cool things. Many of the classes are collaborations with leading tech companies. They also offer 'nanodegrees' in several … [Read more...]
